'WORK' Scrapbook Layout
As you may know, I've been partaking in the Studio Calico Design School Class and well, it's got me inspired over here! Combining two challenges–typography and pattern–I made this scrapbook layout titled 'Work' with a hand-lettered background which incorporated my large title as well. Keep reading to see how I did it and to see more details about this page!
To start this page off right, I ripped a page out of my sketchbook and trimmed it down to size. I liked the texture of the spiral edges on the left hand side, and it's a cheap paper alternative since I didn't know how the lettering would turn out! Once it was to size I laid out my large title 'work' in jumbo chipboard alphas from studio calico and traced around them softly with a pencil. This gave me the structure to start my hand lettering around the title since I knew I wanted that to be a knockout image through the handlettering. When I got down towards the bottom I also traced around my image placement too so I didn't letter where it wasn't going to be seen–a major time saver!
After that was done, I placed my image up on some pop dots for extra dimension and then began the embellishment phase. I grabbed this 'yay' flag and coordinating heart diamonds from an ephemera pack in the Young At Heart scrapbook kit from Studio Calico. I paired these with some handcut diamonds in other patterns to add some repetition of shape and mixture of patterns to the spread. I used pop dots on a few of those as well to carry your eye throughout the spread. I finished the whole layout off by mounting it on the teal textured cardstock and wrinkling the edges a little for texture. And–Voila! Layout complete.
